Wisdom Of The Sage

Meno Pause

Did you know menopause originated from the Greek words 'menos', which means month, and 'pause' meaning ending. Even though the Greek meaning for pause is ending, in the English language it is obviously pause, and let's face it our hormones don't pause to go on holiday to return to work at a later date, they retire.

The word itself isn't negative nor is it positive. Our perception of this passage, however, can generally be one that is not positive. To be honest, I don't recall there ever being a conversation in my house growing up about menopause and what to expect, and yes, my perception of menopause going into it was very negative. 👎🏼 Researching it online only presented with so many negative symptoms (get the violin out), and even speaking with other women didn't give me any more positive feelings towards the journey either. ☹️

If we could re-name this transition in life, what would we call it? Bonnie J. Horrigan named it Red Moon Passage as she found the name 'menopause' to be quite negative when there is so much to be celebrated. 🎉

What's to be celebrated I hear you say..... well I'm glad you asked. Well there is the captain obvious one, not ever having a period again (this is where you happy dance). 💃 We are embarking on a journey into the unknown, exploring the uncharted magical lands of endings, rebirth and change (which by the way, we have been doing continually throughout our lives).

Menopause brings to light the dis-ease within our body, 🤢 that’s positive you say? Well actually it is, because not only do we need to address what the body has manifested physically from unresolved stress and trauma but we become more self aware, intuitive if you will, of what isn’t flowing freely within. it’s our job now to share all the wisdom we have accumulated throughout our lives, (which is a lot) with the younger generation. We aren’t done or used up, or a burden on society, and it’s up to us to stand proud, confident and empowered.

We have, or are transitioning out of a time of some family responsibilities (if you are a Mum) to a stage that is more self focused, that allows us more freedom of time.

Take the journey with an open heart and mind, be proactive with research and what treatments are right for you, not just what everyone else is doing. This is your body and your life, treat it with kindness and love 💜☮️
