Wisdom Of The Sage

☯𝓘'𝓂 𝒾𝓃 𝒶𝓌𝑒 𝑜𝒻 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓅𝑒𝓃𝒸𝒾𝓁☯

We hear a lot of people say now to write down what you are grateful for every day, there is always something to be grateful for. And this is very true, but for some, who might be in a darker place, the place where you perceive that there is nothing good in your life or perhaps nothing worth living for, you might find this a very difficult task. And why do we need to be grateful for everything anyway? How is that going to make my life better? Well firstly, it keeps us in the present moment rather than ruminating over those past stories. Secondly, when we focus on things that bring us joy, we start to feel happier, life seems to be better because we now see how much more there is to be happier about. By doing this, we are actually creating new neural pathways in our brain….."happy" pathways rather than the well-used negative pathways. Once we start to feel happier, we start to create happy experiences, we start to find joy in the everyday mundane experiences. So, from where I’m sitting, this is a pretty important state to create.

So here’s the thing, to be grateful for something, you kind of need to be in awe of it, but what does that mean? You need an appreciation, or wonderment for that particular thing. How can you be in wonderment for the everyday things, the things we take for granted, the mundane things? Well, here is a way to just do that, to be in awe, to be amazed and in reverence for the simple everyday things.

First up, look around in your immediate area and start writing down some of the things you see. Next, write down what is so amazing about all of these things. Ohhhh okay, I hear you say, how can I be amazed by the pencil that I’m holding? Well, let’s break that down a bit. That pencil has given you the ability to write your thoughts down, draw and create ideas. That pencil was created and crafted from a tree which is part of nature……wow, nature has provided a tool to help you articulate what you want to say and draw. The pencil created jobs, an artist to design how the pencil would look, an engineer to bring that design into a workable diagram, machinery is then developed to construct the pencil and people to facilitate that process. So you can see it’s not just a pencil.

You don’t need to spend half your day writing down every item or experience within your day and writing a story about it. When you practice this process, with just one object or experience it will become second nature and can be done in your mind where ever you go. Just imagine all the wonderous things you’ll experience in your day, because what we richly imagine, the mind and body believes.
